Palm Trees and a Tropical Breeze is from The Sons of Vancouver distillery. This whisky won a Gold from the Canadian Whisky Awards January 20th 2023. It's a beautiful 53.5% and has just the right amount of their signature lactic note, which is there, but not as strong as their more recent Realms of Rye Or Tropical Storm.
I would describe it as not typically tropical and slightly chalky in a really great way. The nose also has a slight green note, some fresh grass and a touch of ripe banana. The palate is a little more typically tropical, mango, pineapple but still quite overripe. It has a lasting finish, with a little pepper on the tongue. The pepper fades and the great tropical finish stays on the tongue. I personally enjoyed the sample that of this more than the sample I had of the Realms of Rye (first release). Though honestly I really wish that both bottles were available on secondary, though I would never encourage the secondary market and especially secondary market prices. Both releases have were small have been drunk through for the most part so there's very little of it out there in the whisky sphere. The viscosity on this is medium.
Palm Trees and a Tropical Breeze is incredible, not because the lactic note is gone, but because it is more subtle when compared to Tropical Storm or Realms of Rye. Here the lactic note adds to it, but in Realms of Rye and Palm Trees and a Tropical Storm that lactic note is more, it's turned up and takes over too much of the whisky profile. This whisky would not be as good without the exact level of lactic note that it has. Honestly very good whisky, I thoroughly enjoyed the sample of this I got and if I rated whisky, it would have a very good mark.
Lastly, I want to be clear, I also enjoyed Realms of Rye and Palm Trees and a Tropical Storm, all I'm saying is I enjoyed Palm Trees and a Tropical Breeze a little more because that signature lactic note was perfect.

P.S. Thank you so very much for the sample. You know who you are.
